Sex Addict? What the Hell is a Sex Addict?

Ok, I've read somewhere that Jesse James - Sandra Bullock's poor-excuse-for-a-husband-and-soon-to-be-ex, was sent to some place to be treated for his sex addiction.
I first heard of this term linked with David Duchovny from the X-Files, then the Tiger Woods scandal, now with Jesse and Sandra. WTF?
Who invented this term and are they getting rich from these sorry bastards?
So what exactly is a sex addict? I have so many questions I don't even know where to start! Is it like say, a chocoholic or an alcoholic? Is it real? What are the symptoms? - forget it, I think i know the answer to that last one already...I think.
When do you cross the line from behavior that could be considered a bad habit into addiction territory? For example, how many beers do you have to drink a night before you are considered an alcoholic? I drink about 5-6, am I considered an alcoholic? How much chocolate do you have to consume to be labeled a chocoholic, cause I like to eat an entire box in one sitting sometimes, so am I considered a chocoholic? How many affairs does one have to have in order to say that a person is a sex addict? I don't have affairs - in reality perse, but in my dreams I have about 10-15 a week, so am I considered a sex addict wanna-be... kinda????
I don't get it!??!! SOMEONE, anyone.. please help me to understand!
